Student Tours

Pre-Kindergarten/Kindergarten (tours usually between 1.5-2 hrs)

  • Coloring Craft Activity (Twirly Bird)
  • Short tour around the building and control tower
  • Tour of our outside planes (weather dependent)

School and Group Tours (2-2.5 hours)

Tour times beginning as early as 10:00 a.m

Tours last approximately two and a half hours depending on activities chosen and age range

Activities may include:

  • Classroom Activity
  • Classroom Lesson
  • Indoor and/or Outdoor Ramp Tour
  • Access to the Learning Centers

Tour Time Availability

Tours are available during regular business hours and weekends by special request.

 

 

Classroom Portion (Optional)

The classroom portion includes a lesson on the four forces of flight, how a wing creates lift, a look at an airfoil, demonstrations of Bernoulli, and more.  Students will complete this activity by competing in our paper pilots program, and then they can test-fly off them of the 3rd-floor mezzanine!

Building Tour

Take a walk through three floors of the historic art-deco Wichita Municipal Airport building. Learn about the key people who enabled Wichita to become the Air Capital of the World. Discover what aircraft in the 20s and 30s were made of, and even sneak-a-peek inside a cockpit or two. 

Ramp Tour

 

Embark on a journey to our ramp and immerse yourself in the awe-inspiring presence of our diverse fleet of 12 aircraft. Strike a pose within the historic bomb bay of our iconic B-52, explore the renowned FedEx 727 plane, and unravel the fascinating tales behind each aircraft's unique history and purpose!

Weather Dependent

Learning Center and Learning Hangar

Fly to far away places in one of our cockpits, test your pilot skills on one of our computer-based flight simulators, and build an aircraft using one of our building materials in our STEM learning center.  There are aviation books of all ages, an indoor playset, and aviation-themed educational videos playing.  This room is fun for anyone from 1 to 101 years old!

Lunch spots available outside on our picnic tables or picnic style in the Atrium!

Each segment can last between 30- 45 minutes depending on the amount of time here at KAM. All programs are customizable for age and topic
 

Cost

The cost for a tour is tailored to the type of tour needed.
(Normal admission pricing does not apply for a scheduled tour.)

We offer discounts to Title I schools to help ensure that all children have a fair and equal opportunity to obtain a high-quality education.

Minimum of 10 students required for a guided tour.

Tours must be booked at minimum 2 weeks before desired tour date to ensure docent availability.
