The F-84F was a swept wing variant of the Republic Thunderjet released in 1954. Although most F-84 models were made by Republic Aviation in Farmingdale, New York, some of the Thunderstreaks (including this one) were produced by General Motors in Kansas City, Kansas. Both Cessna and Beechcraft provided parts for teh Kansas City run of F-84s, ensuring that this jet was assembled with parts from all over the state of Kansas. Empennage assemblies were provided by Cessna and flaps and ailerons were built by Beechcraft. Although earlier straight wing Thunderjets were used extensively by teh Air Force in the Korean War, the Thunderstreak did not provide the improved performance the military hoped to see from the project. Maintenance issues caused the Air Force to phase out the F-84s by 1958.
